This episode profiles the non-profit agency Lift the Children based in Auburn. The organization was started by Chip and Kathleen Miller as part of an ongoing effort to help abandoned children living in orphanages and institutions throughout Romania. Babies once confined to cribs in deplorable conditions have grown into teenagers in desperate need of housing and medical care and infant abandonment continues as a result of severe poverty. Lift the Children has developed and supports more than half a dozen programs in the Eastern European country serving hundreds of children, providing them with meals, social services, work skills, and counseling.
